Foiling flight with HEARP
We are incredibly proud to share this video of HEARP in real flight on the canals! HEARP is a Hydrofoil Education and Research Platform we developed for TU Delft. With foils, this little vessel can reach very high speeds at just a fraction of its full power, while logging all sorts of flight data.
HEARP features modular 3D-printed hydrofoil modules that can be arranged in different ways. The production technique allows for rapid prototyping by students and researchers at TU Delft. In this radio-controlled foiler, the height and pitch are controlled fully automatically with our in-house developed systems. As you can see, this creates a very stable and level flight!
We thank Dr. Ir. Ido Akkerman from the department of ship hydromechanics and our engineers Casper Vertregt, Gijs Bruining and Laurent Declerck for all development effort that went into this system!
